Carnival Village

The Tabernacle is not only a hub for music and artistic focus but continues its long history of having an active commitment to serving the local community. The venue managed by Carnival Village, an organisation that nurtures and showcases artists and supports the development of carnival-related creative industries…all the time striving to improve the cultural and economic well-being of the community we serve.
Carnival Village is a registered charity founded by four organisations rooted in the delivery of Carnival Arts. All four organisations each have more than twenty years of active participation in the Notting Hill Carnival (which began right around the corner in 1966) and cover the range of carnival arts disciplines, such as steel band (Ebony and Mangrove), calypso (Association of British Calypsonians), and costume (Yaa Asantewaa Arts Centre). Yaa Asantewaa is recognised for its innovative approach to costume design and construction.
Carnival Village is the carnival arts development agency for London, funded by Arts Council England to explore and develop new ways of profiling Carnival arts throughout the year.
The organisation runs a range of classes and clubs for children and adults on a weekly basis – drop in and ask at reception for more information.
